In the Heart of Shrewsbury

The West Mid Showground occupies a riverside setting in the county town of Shropshire, just a few minutes walk from its historic town centre.

As well as hosting some of the region’s biggest and brightest events, the near 100-acre showground also welcomes camper vans, touring caravans and tents, offering electric hook-up, toilets and shower facilities.

It is charity-run by the West Midlands Agricultural Society, which also feeds into the Rural Charity, supporting those people and organisations who make up the local rural economy.

Did you know?

The Shropshire County Show has been held on the West Mid Showground site for well over 100 years after the inaugural event was hosted in Shrewsbury’s Quarry in 1875.

What’s Happening at the West Mid Showground?

Among the many events hosted at the West Mid Showground are three annual events hosted by the West Midlands Agricultural Society (WMAS) itself - the historic Shropshire County Show, Shrewsbury Live and the Bonfire and Firework Spectacular.

The site is also home to the Shrewsbury Folk Festival in August as well as the Shrewsbury Half Marathon, concerts, dog shows, private hire and a weekly Car Boot Sale (as events allow).

What's On

01. Shropshire County Show

The Shropshire County Show has been held for a century and a quarter and for many years has been hosted at the showground in the merry month of May!

Over the last 145 years, farmers and their families and employees have come together with visitors from Shrewsbury and beyond to bring together town and country and celebrate the agricultural county of Shropshire.

02. Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular

Our hugely popular display will feature two displays – the first ideal for younger children with a reduced level of noise, followed by a louder display later in the evening.

All proceeds will go to the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society’s Rural Charity, which ensures the showground can continue as a vital part of the community, along with allowing the society to make donations throughout the year to various groups and organisations.

Great location just an easy 15 minute walk into town. Own little garden with a shelter and fire pit. Washing and toilet block and pot wash point close by. Very friendly staff. Very peaceful, calm and relaxing even though it is a big site. We had a great stay.

Great having indoor area (with heater) and two outside options (no cover or under cover). Site was enormous so plenty of room for kids to kick a ball and run about. Good fun swimming, canoeing and fishing in the River Severn. Site very secure and staff all very helpful. Shrewsbury and the surrounding area is a great location with so much to see and do. We will be back.

We had a great camping weekend and thank you for the warm & helpful welcome when we arrived. Facilities were fine, nice powerful showers and ideally situated, being a peaceful site, but still close to the town. We will certainly be returning and have recommended the site to friends. "What a find" Thanks again!
